Strike Duo To Miss Charlton Opener

Swansea City strike duo Gorka Pintado and Jason Scotland could both miss the Championship opener against Charlton.

Boss Roberto Martinez has said that he wouldn't expect Scotland to play at Charlton while Spaniard Pintado could be out for up to ten days which would present the chance to in-form Guillem Bauza and on-loan Manchester United man, Febian Brandy.

It will come as a disappointment to most Swans fans with many believing that 30 year old Gorka could strike a promising partnership with the former St Johnstone man Scotland.

The Trinidad & Tobago hotshot scored a massive twenty-nine goals last season while Pintado scored eighteen for his former club Granada CF.

Roberto Martinez told the Western Mail: "I would still be comfortable with my options,"

"We are not talking about long-term injuries, just minor niggles. The last thing we want is to rush these players back when they are not 100 per cent. And I'm very confident the players we have got will score goals.

"Gorka had to come off as a precaution. He felt his groin go slightly in a challenge with a Chester defender and we will just have to see where we are over the next 48 hours.

"There is no major concern though. With these kind of injuries the worst-case scenario would normally be that he is out for 10 days, but we will just have to wait for the scans to come back.

"Jason had another good session in training yesterday. But he is probably 10 days away from playing at a competitive standard and I wouldn't expect him to play at Charlton."

Character Needed Says Roberto

"We need to show our character now and bounce back from this disappointment in the league,'' said Roberto.

"It was so near and yet so far. Now we must regroup and regain that winning feeling in the league.

"We must keep faith and ensure we take whatever is in our reach. I am proud of the attitude, performance and effort of my players.

"It is cruel on Jason as he is our best penalty taker," added Roberto. "He is really down and feeling gutted.

"He is normally really good at taking penalties and he got into some fantastic positions in the second half.

"But credit to the Dons, their penalties were very, very good. We approached the game correctly and gave it everything we could.

"We didn't underestimate them - they are top of the league and have a fantastic away record.

"MK look a very strong outfit but it is hard to judge how they would do in League One as personnel can change dramatically."
